Dozens of women took to the catwalk this weekend to show off elegant ways of hiding their weapons in their wardrobes.

Firearms can apparently be stylishly stashed in everything from purses and dresses to yoga leggings and underwear, according to the goods modeled Saturday night at the annual concealed carry fashion show at the National Rifle Association convention in Indianapolis.

“It’s very uncomfortable when you first start concealing. You feel like everybody knows you have a firearm,” said Dawn Hillyer, the founder of Hiding Hilda a company that makes handbags with a special slot to place a gun.

Hillyer told CBS4Indy she bought a gun to defend herself against a man who stalked her for five years until he was finally arrested. During that time, she realized there were few options on the market that allowed her to secretly carry her weapon around — and look good doing it.

She said more and more women are seeking out guns for protection and there’s growing demand for fashionable “carrywear.”
