Energy and Power Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo has told the nation that the country might fail to generate electricity if it does not make efforts to manage its water levels.

Speaking on Zimpapers Television Gumbo said, “It is very known that the water levels at Kariba have gone very low to the extent that we might even be able to generate October by October if we do not manage our waters levels very well.

“We are having challenges at Hwange because of coal supply which are caused by breakdown of machinery which is very old.”

Gumbo said the government has given license to 34 countries to assist in the production of electricity. “That has now forced us as a Ministry to make sure that we look at other means that which make sure the nation does not go dark.

“We have licensed 34 companies which will provide solar in the country. Just as  warning we have told the nation that we might be going for load shedding. But the times that are advertised in the newspapers might not be that long.”
